noun (plural stonefish or stonefishes)
any of several species of highly venomous, tropical Indo-Pacific fishes of Synanceja or a related genus, remarkably camouflaged to resemble weathered coral or rock, having erectile dorsal spines capable of inflicting an extremely painful and sometimes fatal sting.
